The RM400 is an all-metal 90 degree unit designed for a wide range of airframes from twin 5cc right up to large scale 20cc balsa models.

Each unit is precisely CNC machined from lightweight yet strong high-grade aluminum, giving slop free and smooth operation. In combination with hardened metal components, built-in overcurrent protection and shielded integrated PCB and electric motor, you have in the RM400 an extremely robust and reliable retract unit that will serve you for many years to come, in one of the most demanding applications on a model aircraft.       Will these work for the Black Horse L-39 Albatross?

      Hello Ronald, The dimensions for the retracts required for the L-39 are shown on page 13 of the instruction manual. Please see the link below. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1052/4162/files/BH_L-39_Manual.pdf The retracts in question are very close to the dimensions shown, and I'm sure they will fit but you may have to enlarge the cut out slightly.

      Do these come with wire struts, or are they sold separately? If so, I cannot find them on your website. I purchased an aircraft that has these installed with wire struts and I would like to have another set of wire struts to bend more accurately to length. Thanks!

      These are the retract units only. They do not come with struts. They accept 5mm pins.

      Why isn't one of the three steerable for a nose wheel?? Stupid to offer three when one isn't steerable!!!

      How do you modify for nose wheel steering?? Explain.

      To begin, the retracts requires a 5mm rod for the landing gear. This is difficult to find and I ended up using 3/16. To keep the nose gear in the retracts and be able to rotate (steer). I machined a groove in the rod so that the upper set screw can fit into. If you adjust this set screw properly the gear will rotate and not fall out (loc tite or double set screw required). To steer I used a Motion RC type F steering arm SKU N5224 (I ordered all of the steering arms and returned the ones that didn’t fit). I then had to extend the length of the slide arm to allow full travel of the steering servo in the retracted position. (I used a threaded push rod for this). To center the gear for retraction I used a machine screw and lock nut as a set screw (tighten to remove slop but still allow free rotation) in the lower set screw hole. I then replaced the set screw in the steering are with another machine screw and connected both machine screws with a small rubber band as a bungee. I hope this is clear enough.

      I would like the mechanism weights (no struts) of the RM400-90 retracts. If there is a series that will just manage 10 or 11 pounds, I'd like those weights as well. Thanks

                    Folks !! I can’t say this loud enough! If you offer a tri-gear set…include a steerable nose gear unit !!!! I paid $115….and we had to custom make,engineer new parts,(bushings,steering arms,drilling...read moreFolks !! I can’t say this loud enough! If you offer a tri-gear set…include a steerable nose gear unit !!!! I paid $115….and we had to custom make,engineer new parts,(bushings,steering arms,drilling the trunion) to make one unit steerable…which took us 2 hours of additional work…that we shouldn’t have to do…completely ridiculous… I’ve been flying RC for 51 years…with over 40 years of using retractable tri-gear units…Carl Goldberg, Kraft(electric), B&D, Spring Airs…these were all tri-gear units. Every one included one of the units, with a steerable nose gear !! So did other companies with retracts…Rhom-Air, etc… Having a 5.1 mm hole, required us to make a bushing to accept a 3/16 rod….which was more work.. Functionally, the units performed well…. But don’t call it a tri-gear without a nose wheel steering unit…

I had to disassemble one and set the trunion in a drill press and drill it to accept a steerable strut pin. Have only bench tested them so far, but they work well and sound very smooth during operation.
